The Dire Need for a Permanent Dog Shelter
For the past eight years, Earthlings Trust has been providing temporary refuge for street dogs in Delhi animal shelter locations and other leased lands. However, the journey has been far from easy. Landlords have often imposed unreasonable demands, restricted our ability to build proper facilities, and even threatened us with eviction.
Without a permanent dog shelter, our ability to care for these animals is constantly at risk. Moving from one location to another disrupts the lives of the dogs we care for and prevents us from offering them a truly safe home.
We have a dream – a dream of a dog shelter in Greater Noida that will not just be another shelter but a true home. A place where animals will no longer fear displacement, where they will receive the medical care they need, and where they will be surrounded by love.
The Harsh Reality of Stray Dogs on the Streets
Imagine your nights spent hungry, thirsty, and in pain with no one to go to. This is the daily life for thousands of stray dogs in our cities.
- More than 35 million stray dogs in India – India boasts one of the world’s largest stray dog populations, with millions going hungry, without shelter, and lacking proper medical care. Absent a permanent canine shelter, these animals must scrounge out an existence in perilous and inhumane conditions.
- Harsh Weather Conditions – From hot summers to cold winters and heavy downpours, street dogs have to face extreme weather conditions without any shelter. Delhi animal shelter will provide them with a secure haven throughout the year. Proper pet shelters are missing in many cities, leaving hundreds of animals without a secure place to heal.
- Injuries and Suffering – Each day, numerous dogs are run over by speeding cars, attacked by other animals, or die from untreated diseases. Left to their own, they die painful and slow deaths. Our Dog Shelter Greater Noida will give them life-saving medical treatment and rehabilitation.
- Lack of Clean Water – Stray dogs do not have clean drinking water sources, and hence they depend upon filth for survival. By funding animal shelter homes, you are providing these dogs with proper food and clean water.
- Cruelty and Abuse – Several stray canines fall prey to human cruelty—poisoned, brutalized, or abandoned. A well-established dog shelter will rescue and protect them from such horrors.
- Increase in Illegal Breeding and Abandonment – With the rise in unregulated breeding, many dogs are abandoned when they are no longer “wanted.” Our animal care trust will not only rescue these abandoned pets but also promote responsible adoption through pet shelters.

They run along busy roads, at risk of accidents; they beg in rubbish dumps, only to be driven away; they endure untreated disease, slowly disappearing without so much as a gesture of compassion. In spite of their suffering, these dogs still trust humans and wag their tails in hope of compassion. They still trust, they still love, and they still wait.

At our Delhi animal shelter, we are not just building a dog shelter; we are dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing space for street dogs in desperate need. Our vision for the Dog Shelter Greater Noida includes:
- Medical Care & Rehabilitation – Our shelter will employ an in-house vet team to cure sick and injured dogs. Numerous street dogs experience untreated wounds, skin infections, and preventable diseases due to lack of prompt medical care.
- Healthy Food & Pure Water – Stray dogs usually don’t eat for days. Here at our shelter, they will get balanced, healthy food daily to rebuild their strength and health.
- Safe Living Areas – Each dog should have a safe area to sleep without the perpetual risk of abuse or hunger. Our facility will provide clean kennels, outdoor areas for exercise, and a warm, compassionate setting where they will feel safe.
- Rescue & Adoption Programs – Our shelter not only offers safety but also rehabilitation and adoption efforts for dogs to place them with eternal family love. Through our adoption campaigns, we hope to reunite these dogs with families who will love them for their entire lives.

Earthlings Trust is an animal welfare NGO based in Delhi-NCR, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming sick, handicapped, and abandoned dogs. Founded in December 2018 by Sagarika Banerjee and Ditej Garg, we have cared for over 5000 dogs and currently provide permanent shelter to 350+ dogs.
